Busy week!
I alluded to the station work in a previous post. Here's the more updated version of things now that Outdoor School is underway: Because our copies of Steve Jobs' commencement speech were incomplete, Mrs. Krem made three copies of the ending so that we can finally comprehend what he was talking about. These are on the front board. Students then use Jobs' speech to analyze how big ideas are introduced through topic sentences - and how it contributes to his overall message. Here, students are working on foldables to review sentence structure. These will be used in our culminating discussion about Jobs' speech and analysis of our own writing (hyperbolizing the first day of school). Our last station focuses our narrative prompt. Students take what happened on their first day and exaggerate it. My example was that I left my lunch at home. I exaggerated that by turning it into Mr. Furajter eating my oreos and leaving me only brussel sprouts.

On Friday, the students and I spent some time getting familiar with the upcoming schedule. Basically, here's what happened:
We analyzed that there are a total of 6 days for outdoor school and recognized that students would only be away for 2 of them. So then, we uploaded a checklist into google classroom with things they needed to get done in the 4 days they'll be in class. Basically, this means a little more flexibility. A group of students might mean they're working on drafting something -whereas another group is working on bookclubs. I hope this helps! Enjoy your weekend! - Mrs. Krem I'm so excited to be working with everyone! It's been a hectic start, but fluid and that's partly because of the amazing students I get to work with. Thank you for starting the year off strong!
Don't forget to upload your pictures before the two-hour early dismissal on October 31st! Cool prizes are coming your way!!!!
Saturday I'm walking in honor of my late best friend Katie to prevent suicide. However, she's not the only person in my life lost which could have been prevented. While I am on "Team Katie," I walk FOR everyone - including my former students who I've lost way too young.
This research can provide so much more meaning to understanding why and how things happen. If you'd like to read more, please check out my page: http://afsp.donordrive.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=donordrive.participant&participantID=596836
It's hard to believe another year has started, and we're already digging into the curriculum. By this time next week, students will have a grade or two and see, in real life, what standards-based grading looks like in Language Arts. Pretty sweet, huh?
